A Slice of History

The Margherita pizza was first created in 1889 by Raffaele Esposito, a Neapolitan pizza maker, to commemorate a visit from Queen Margherita of Savoy. The pizza—made with green basil, white mozzarella and red tomato sauce—represented the green, white and red of the Italian flag. The queen loved it… and so the Margherita pizza was born.
